Description

The Dude label was set up by Jim Beck and Leo Teel in Dallas during 1947 and had ceased operation by 1949-1950, at latest. Jim Beck was a DJ at KSKY in Dallas and together with local musician Leo Teel, opened a small shop n Allen/McKinney repairing electrical appliances and radios. Jim handled the day-to-day running of the store and the business side, leaving Leo, who had a degree in electronics to do the repairs. As a side-line, local acts would visit the shop and record onto discs which Jim would play on his KSKY shows. From these humble beginnings, Jim decided to form his own record company and to call it Dude.

The initial studio - which was to move more than once - was a converted garage. The tracks on this CD were probably cut when the studio was at Mockingbird Lane. This CD documents some excellent music put out by Jim Beck, who had a very powerful love of country music and was a great judge of talent, which many artists were to benefit from.
